[Venice] Yes, it’s true… images of feeding pigeons in St. Mark’s Square are a thing of the past. Actually, feeding pigeons anywhere in the city of Venice is now deemed as illegal. The new law is directly aimed at keeping the streets cleaner, and protecting the ancient buildings. Both of which are being negatively impacted by way of deterioration, due to accumulation of pigeon droppings.
It is estimated that there are about 40,000 pigeons in Venice. Anyone caught feeding the pigeons will be subject to a 50 euro fine.
Venice joins New York and London in the pigeon feeding ban.
